It is the "transfer case" that is disengaged all four wheels; thus the transmission is "not" connected to anything while the transfer case is "disengaged". That is why it does not matter what gear is selected. All of that is "indicated" by the "blinking" 4-Lo light. If the first set of lights have come on 50 times in the last two months, the 4Lo and Check Engine have only come on 5 times total. To make it more complicated, if my head lights are OFF, my clock will flash when i fully engage the brake. If the brake is partially engaged but i am still stopping forward movement, clock wont flash.

2uprup · #12 · Dec 19, 2008. You usually need to be going about 5 miles an hour before you hit the 4HI button. Once it engages, the light will stop blinking. Then you can stop put the truck in neutral and then puch the 4LO button. The truck will not go into 4LO without first being in 4HI.
