I have a L3301 as well. Just did an oil change last week actually. I usually put in a bit less than what is required and top off per dipstick afterwards. Make sure you run the tractor for a few minutes and let some of that excess oil absorb into the filter. Shut down tractor, let it sit and check dipstick again.

I'm using Shell Rotella T5 in the above mentioned viscosity and have had no problems. Recommended change interval is 60 hours, but that is based on conventional dino oil.
