From a pvp perspective, an opponent using a buckler or small leather shield is obviously going for a parry, whereas an opponent using a caestus in their offhand is a little less likely to spam for parries. Small shields are better for reaction parries compared to something like a caestus because even if you do whiff the parry theres at least some stamina left for a roll.
