Good short guide, if you want you could add second-to-first floor ropes to it. If you break your staircase you can install a wooden wall frame in its place, turn it into a window, and add a sheet rope to it. Now you are completely safe on the second floor even if zombies break into your first floor. Requires at least 2 carpentry and a sledgehammer.
