The National Motor Freight Traffic Association publishes the National Motor Freight Classification® (NMFC®), a standard that provides a comparison of commodities moving in commerce. The NMFC® is developed and maintained by the Freight Classification Development Council (FCDC).The freight class of your shipment is used to determine the shipping charges. There are 18 different classes that range from 50 (least expensive) to 500 (most expensive). The freight class is determined by its contents, weight, and density.
